For the next installment of our Behind The Bathroom series, we had the pleasure of connecting with Laura Kim, the powerhouse Creative Director behind not one, but two iconic fashion brands — Oscar de la Renta and MONSE.
After a quick scroll through Laura’s dreamy instagram feed, you’ll soon realize that her talent extends far beyond the fashion realm. Her culinary creations — from crispy noodle “bird nests” to Magnolia Bakery-inspired cupcakes topped with edible flowers — are exquisite, to say the least. We asked her everything from her favorite recipe right now (which you can try at home!) to how she gets her lit from within glow. Here’s what she shared:
What’s work like for you right now?
Lots of Zoom calls! So much texting and sending PDFs back and forth.
What is a key part of your daily wellness routine?
I try to do at least one hour of workout per day. I love doing barre classes with Antonella James on Zoom, the Sculpt Society app with Megan Roup, or yoga with Juan Gamboa. My friend Erza J William takes me out for a walk once a week, and recently my friend Pom Klementieff took me on a bike ride from Tribeca all the way up to the Guggenheim Museum. That was a lot!
What does your morning routine look like?
I try to do some sort of a mask every other day. (The Resurfacing Mask is my favorite Tata Harper product!) I also always take vitamins and drink fresh smoothies.
What does your evening routine look like?
I usually focus on my face in the morning and my body at night. I apply serum and body lotion and do a light lymphatic drainage massage I learned from Camila Perez.
Would you say you are a beauty minimalist or maximalist?
Minimalist. I love skincare but I’m not big on makeup. Less is always better!
What on-the-go products do you always have in your purse?
What’s your most important beauty secret and who did you learn it from?
My Mom and Grandma have always taught me to use clean products and eat healthy food. They even made their own serums and essences until recently because clean beauty products weren’t always available before now.
What is one thing that you do for yourself that makes you feel good every day?
I always have something in my mind I want to create — usually it's fashion related but since our workroom is closed I have been making food! I always try to make it unique and pretty.
We've noticed — we love seeing your beautiful culinary creations! What is one recipe we should all try this summer?
Poached Pear Pastry for breakfast! Here’s how to make it at home:
Poach pears in white wine. I use a whole bottle of white wine and 1 cup of sugar.
Then add in cloves, cinnamon, star anise, and fresh vanilla beans, and boil for 7 mins.
Cut the pears in half and lay on puff pastry squares. You can buy a frozen puff pastry at the grocery store or just make your own at home.
Bake at 425 Fahrenheit for 15 mins. For decoration, I added leaves at the last minute so it's a bit colorful.
Finish with powdered sugar — then, uber to your friends or sister! Enjoy!
